Our commitment to the United Nation's SDGs

SDG# 1

image186

End poverty in all its forms everywhere

TARGET 1.1. By 2030, eradicate extreme poverty for all people everywhere, currently measured as people living on less than $1.25 a day.

OUR COMMITMENT: To convince Filipino smallholder rice farmers to shift to a more sustainable way of farming, we will increase their income by (1) increasing their yield, (2) reducing their cost, and (3) buying their produce at a fair price that is higher than prevailing rates.

We will also connect our grower partners directly to as many Filipino families to increase their income by 372% from a current per capita income of $0.50 to $1.88. This is our social impact.

SDG# 2

End hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture

TARGET 2.4. By 2030, ensure sustainable food production systems and implement resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production, that help maintain ecosystems, that strengthen capacity for adaptation to climate change, extreme weather, drought, flooding and other disasters and that progressively improve land and soil quality.

OUR COMMITMENT:

FOOD SECURITY: The average age of Filipino smallholder rice farmers today is 57 years old. FOOD SECURITY depends on our ability to develop the new generation of farmers. We will attract young generation to into farming by making farming a dignified and profitable form of livelihood.

IMPROVE NUTRITION: Healthy food starts with a healthy farmer. We train our grower partners to adhere to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), and shift to using organic-certified farm inputs. This will not only protect the environment, but moreover, protect those who produce food.

Aside from keeping farmers healthy, natural farm inputs positively affect the ability of the produce to pass on nutrients to those who consume it. Would you rather have synthetic or natural inputs enter the food you eat?

Using organic inputs ensure that food served to consumers have no chemical residue from toxic synthetic pesticides.

PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE: Our business model is based on Community-Supported Sustainable Agriculture (CSSA) where consumers and farmers work hand-in-hand in taking care of the environment, by taking care of each other.

When responsible consumers patronize Farmvocacy's sustainably-grown farm produce, they also take part in conserving our planet's depleting resources and ensuring the Philippine's food security.

We will introduce farmers to climate-smart, environment friendly and high yielding farming system through actual in-field demo farms. By showing actual increase in yield and better quality of farm produce, we will be able to increase farmers shifting to sustainable farming.

SDG# 12

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

TARGET 12.3. By 2030, halve per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses.

OUR COMMITMENT: Help Filipino smallholder rice farmers ensure grains are stored properly to maintain product freshness and quality thereby minimizing food losses due to spoilage.

SDG# 14

image189

Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development

TARGET 14.1. By 2025, prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution

OUR COMMITMENT: Encourage Filipino smallholder rice farmers to eliminate if not reduce significantly the use of chemical mollouscicide (snail killers) and replace it

with the use of ducks (itik) to control snails.

Promote also the use of organic fertilizer to replace water soluble chemical fertilizers that pollute the watershed, rivers and ocean.
